ACSUS, with the support of the International Academic Relations Division of Foreign Affairs Canada, is pleased to announce the 2006 competition for The ACSUS Fund for the Arts grant program. The program is designed to stimulate US academic institutions to organize more symposia, roundtables, conferences, public lectures and authors' appearances in literature, the performing and visual arts, with the aim of promoting Canada through cultural events.
The program will fund several projects with grants ranging between $500 to $1,000, depending on the number and demands of the projects submitted. The project must be carried out in 2006. Institutions may not apply in two consecutive years.
Criteria:
Event should be organized by a university or college in the United States and take place in the United States; should be organized around a theme that focuses on literature, visual, or performing arts emanating from all of Canada, including anglophone , francophone, First Nations, etc.; should be a public event open to local audiences; can be either a single literary or artistic event, or part of a wider event. Examples of qualifying events would include book readings, roundtables, poetry recitals, film-showings, appearances by filmmakers, art exhibits, lectures by painters, photographers, sculptors, artisans as well as performances by singers, musicians, and dancers.
Application Requirements:
Applicants should provide the following:
(1) The name, institution, and contacts for all individuals applying for a grant.
(2) A resume of the person(s) applying for a grant.
(3) A detailed budget, including all projected expenses, details of ancillary funding, if any.
(4) A detailed description of the projected event, including how this project promotes the objectives of the grant.
(5) A short biography and resume of the artist(s) to be invited.
(6) A description of the targeted audience and the number of spectators expected.
(7) A description of how the event will be publicized.
(8) A final report submitted to ACSUS one month after the event. Include program, narrative, and any press releases.
(9) Applicants should submit 5 copies of their proposals.
The event program, and all other publicity should indicate that the event was funded by The ACSUS Fund for the Arts, with the support of The International Academic Relations Division of Foreign Affairs Canada.
