On January 27-28, 2006, the University System of Georgia's Center for Canadian Studies, the Mid-Continent Consortium for International Education, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sponsored a workshop to aid faculty in the development of Canadian studies course content. We invited a series of speakers, authors and educators to help faculty develop cross-disciplinary, introductory and capstone course content for Canadian Studies and North American Studies programs. The workshop was designed for faculty to learn how to build a course from the bottom up, and how to identify and incorporate significant aspects of Canadian scholarship into a Canadian Studies or North American studies program. Participants were encouraged to explore the potential for funding for Canadian Studies course development, exchanges and partnerships with Canadian institutions, and scholarships and fellowships available to Georgia faculty and students who wish to expand their horizons in Canada .
The workshop began with a dinner reception on Friday evening at 7:30 pm. , at the Read House Hotel in Chattanooga . On Saturday day-long workshops were held at the local UT facilities, followed by a special reception and closing dinner which welcomed Canadian authors Alistair McLeod and Nino Ricci. Presentations from this workshop will be published in a special issue of the Southern Journal of Canadian Studies. |
